Hammer on stage at the NYS Fair (Chevy Court) with his hype dancers (circa 2009)

Syracuse.com writer Chris Baker wrote a story today talking about the greatest New York State Fair concert moments of all time.

For our taste the 2009 visit by Hammer (aka MC Hammer, aka Stanley Burrell) still reverberates near Chevy Court. On a warm, muggy night in September the artist may have been past the peak of his superpowers, but he put on a show for the ages.  The Hip Hop experience featured a dozen or so dancers that nearly set the stage on fire. At one point he even invited about 50 audience members on stage with him for a finale that turned the mutha out.

Hard to believe, but the show was free (with admission to the Fair) and the seating was first come-first serve.

A FunFlicks 40 foot high big screen was set up in Barry Park to show the Italy vs. England World Cup match on Saturday night.

Who says Syracuse doesn’t take football (that’s soccer for the rest of us) seriously. About 100 people gathered at Barry Park over the weekend to watch a recording of the England vs. Italy World Cup contest courtesy of FunFlicks.
