Here are some photographs from Saturday’s A Night at the Museum, a fashion show produced and directed by students at Syracuse University.
The show featured collections from Papaya Clothing, Real NY, Boom Babies, Collar Candy, Kreemo as well as pieces by designers Dejuan Hightower (representing Downstate), Kim, Kid Dangerous, and Bilaya Jackson (representing Upstate). Several students also presented their work on the runway.
Before the Fashion’s Conscience A Night at the Museum show on Saturday, we caught up with Ike Styles (aka Issac Boakye), a designer of the RareNY Label. He resides in the Bronx, NY but at one time was a student at OCC.
Rev. Run speaks about race in Hip Hop at Syracuse University
Rev. Run, spoke last night at Syracuse University in a forum about race, religion and Hip Hop. He was joined by fellow panelists Hasan Stephens (aka Maestro) and Don Sawyer, III.
As an elder statesman in the culture, Run said his job was certainly not to criticize new voices in the genre. He pointed out that artists, like people, evolve and grow.
Hasan Stephens (aka Maestro) dialogues with Rev. Run about radio programming’s influence on popular taste during the forum.
Here is a sample of Run talking about his transition from Run to Rev and how he can’t be one without the other.

Syracuse University alum, singer, actress and former Miss America Vanessa Williams was presented with the 2011 Icon of Style Award last night at JP Morgan Chase, One Chase Manhattan Plaza.
Williams, along with Coach Jim Boeheim, Chancellor Nancy Cantor, attended the event and watched a fashion show featuring the work of 12 students from Syracuse University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts.
Here are photographs from the previous Icon of Style Award presentation and show we covered a few years ago.
A statistic was cited during the recent Cent$ + Sense-Ability Fashion Show at The Newhouse School of Public Communications last week that the average American discards about 68 lbs of clothing and textiles each year.
In an effort to show that fashion too can ride the current wave of sustainability, this year’s annual fashion show for the Fashion Communication Milestone featured recycled materials, clothing, and material found in the trash. A host of material was donated by the Rescue Mission. The student designs promoted “Fashion in a Recession.”
A few of the evenings highlights included: hairstyles featuring soda cans as well as, Tina Fey impersonator and Newhouse Program Coordinator Shelly Griffin (pictured above).
