Syracuse-native Jimmy Cavallo returned to town to play a two-day set at the Italian Festival.

We got to meet Jimmy Cavallo over the weekend. On stage he plays a mean sax, and has an energetic show with great jokes for someone almost 90. During his Saturday set he talked about appearing in the film Rock, Rock!”

He later told us he was the first white rock musician (with an all white band) to play Harlem’s Apollo Theater in 1956.

Who said fashion shows weren't hard work

Who said fashion shows weren’t hard work

Leave it to the folks at Urban Life CrossFit to take fashion up a notch. Most of them took a turn to spin for the duration of last night’s Landmark Theater Window Project (60 + minutes). Afterwards, despite the high perspiration index, they posed for a photo.

This event is part of Syracuse (Fall) Fashion Week.

Brothers’ Gonna Work It Out

Writer and activist Kevin Powell spoke at Syracuse's Maxwell School in 2009.

Writer and activist Kevin Powell spoke at Syracuse’s Maxwell School in 2009.

Media personality George Kilpatrick says that we can lead from here.

To show he’s living up to his word, he recently reached out to BK Nation’s Kevin Powell for a conversation about ending domestic violence from a male perspective.

Powell is a familiar, progressive voice on the national networks and in magazines. He is working on a memoir about his journey into manhood. In 2015 he will also publish a biography of Tupac.

BK Nation is a 21st Century Civil Rights organization.

Kilpatrick also serves as a coordinator with Vera House Inc. here in Central New York.

Nick Mulpagano and his sister-in-law Debbie did a medley of songs for the Italian Festival last week, and they dressed up as some fabulously fashionable stars.
