About this time last year we saw Byron Hurt’s film “Hip Hop: Beyond Beats & Rhymes.” The filmmaker and anti-sexist advocate (pictured above) recently came to Syracuse to discuss his film during a film festival at the Community Folk Art Center. We asked him if he got any backlash from the film and what was the genesis for the project. You can hear a brief excerpt here.

I received this link from photographer Chester Higgins (NYT). All voters should be this educated about their candidate and the process.
There are many people who have helped with this venture to inspire me and keep it going. One such person was my father-in-law and informal advisor H. Paul Norton (historian, psychologist, businessman and Civil Rights activist). Unfortunately, he passed away earlier this year. His death was a profound loss for SIF and my family. Paul lived a good life and left a great legacy And although not listed on the advisory board, he was always willing to share his wisdom and resources to expand our vision.
