Comic Richie Redding kept the Funny Bone audience in stitches as he touched on current topics, this that and the third.
On our first visit to the Syracuse Funny Bone Comedy Club we were pleased to meet NYC comic Richie Redding. Don’t let his Ivy League education fool you, this ten-plus year comedy vet can write a joke that will make you bust your gut. From his intro shout-out for Butternut Street to subjects such as PMS and music downloads, Redding kept the audience and servers howling with laughter.
Redding was preceded on stage by Dan Frigolette and host Anna Phillips. He will return to NYC for some gigs before heading out to shows in Arizona.
Hopefully he can return soon to Syracuse. For now, most people who saw Redding’s act on Thursday will never look at their thumbs the same again.
To see a previous interview we did with Frigolette, click here. To see a review of a performance by Anna Phillips last year, click here.

Dan Frigolette used a zany prop during his show, but it is not included in this photograph.

Over the Edge: Young female fans jockey for position as the boy band AJR prepared to sing in Destiny USA’s Canyon on Thursday evening.
If you were in the mall last night you couldn’t help but feel the energetic enthusiasm created by the AJR Brothers appearance and performance. The band also shared the HOT 107.9 FM stage with British pop singer Katy Tiz.
As we have stated in the past, the Canyon (which has great views from as far as 80 feet high) is becoming a great spot to see live music.

HOT 107.9 program director and on-air personality AJ interviewed the band.

Forman Park, East Genesee Street
Today is National Running Day. Regardless of the season, Syracuse is certainly a runner’s town. Fitness fanatics from Urban Life Crossfit are pictured above during a run around Forman Park earlier this Spring.

Robert Van Keuren, US Navy veteran
US Navy veteran-turned housing visionary Robert Van Keuren, who flew over 200 combat missions in the Vietnam War, gave a speech and officially opened the Van Keuren Housing Complex last week. He reminded the crowd that many of our veterans have been left unsheltered, and not necessarily homeless, since our country will always be their home.

Su casa es me llamo: Robert Van Keuren cuts the ribbon on the East Genesee housing complex that bears his name last week.

The cast of “Doors” (Debra Richardson, Jalayla Finster, Sheena E. Solomon and Sharleen Starks) along with advocates Loren Cunningham, Jennifer Nadler, George Kilpatrick and The PRPAC’s Karin Franklin-King participated in a talk-back session at CNY Jazz Central following the world premiere of the play.
Doors, which was written by Vanessa Johnson and directed by PRPAC’s Ryan Hope Travis, will run for two more shows on Saturday. The play is an emotional exploration of a group of ladies dealing with sexual assault in a family context.
Jennifer Nadler is an abuse survivor and attended the show. She also participated in the talk-back session and thanked the cast because Doors paralleled her own truth journey.

Charleston Collins, barber
Today we remember Mr. Collins, the barber and son of the South, who ran a multi-generational family business in the city’s Midtown section. He passed away earlier this month.
