Small Staged Shows

NPR has the Tiny Desk Concert, but here in Syracuse, thanks to the CNY Jazz Arts Foundation, we have events such as Jazz in the Plaza (Le Moyne College). Yesterday, Grupo Pagan Lite (Edgar Pagan, Bill DiCosimo and Jose Varona) served up some smooth jazz seasoning just outside the bookstore, while students and others took a leisurely lunch. Check out the clip from the show, particularly DiCosimo’s work on the keys.

Ioana Vintu

Ioana Vintu and Nuf Said were a great fit for the back yard-like setting at Le Moyne Plaza last night. Their return to the Cuse on a cool September evening also provided a fitting diminuendo for the outdoor jazz season.

“The measure of our health as a community may reside in our ability to stand in awe of what the poor have to carry rather than stand in judgement of how they carry it.”

There were a bounty of music choices on the menu last night: You could have checked out the inaugural concert at the Lakeview Ampitheater; or you could have taken in the final show at the NYS Fair Grandstand, but if you are a lover of smooth jazz, the normally serene Salt Springs neighborhood was the place to be on Thursday.

For the fourth and final installment of the Jazz in the City Series CNY Jazz invited Four 80 East with guest Jeff Kashiwa to Le Moyne Plaza. They came, they played, the conquered.

Listen to the clip above as the band encourages the crowd in a blissful karaoke session. Every summer has a soundtrack, and we will always associate “Ah, Ah, Ooo” with 2015.

The venue, and it’s abundant lawn space, was the perfect place to beat the heat and conclude the summer music season.

Apparently it’s okay to save the best for last.

Here’s a great gift for Father’s Day: a sweet melody. This original composition was performed by Eric Sprague at the OCPL Masterclass Finale. He said it was inspired by his father.

The performance for this song was so well done we thought it was from an opera. During the OCPL Masterclass Finale 2, McCoy gave a short translation, then showed her vocal skills (in Italian).
