Ralph Lalama played January JAZZfest in the Mohegan Manor Ballroom. He was later joined by vocalist Nancy Kelly.
Another January JAZZfest is in the books and it was a great show. Here are a few photographs from yesterday afternoon’s action.

Nancy Kelly, the first lady of the Syracuse jazz scene will be a featured artist at this weekend’s January Jazz Fest. Below listen to a sample of 12 Bar Blues from last year’s gig.
Larry and Margaret Luttinger groove to the sounds of vocalist Nancy Kelly at Friday night’s Sitrus event. Larry is one of the few producers/drummers who has the dance moves to match his musicianship.
What a way to kick-off 2015’s music season.
Last night’s Jazz at Sitrus event was filled to the brim (restaurant and bar) to take in the musical experience that is Nancy Kelly. Kelly was backed by the usual suspects: Losito (organ), Kelley (drums) and Carello (sax). If this is any indication, the January Jazzfest should be massive. Kelly will be a featured artist at that event, which will be held January 25 in Baldwinsville.
The Melissa Gardiner Group: Gardiner on trombone and vocals, Byron Cage on drums, Will Gorman on keys, and August Cook on tenor sax, took Christmas music deep into the shed during the inaugural performance for the Tokyo-Seoul music series Saturday night. They added some spice to standards to the delight of a packed dining room that featured musicians, educators and jazz fans.
Guest vocalists for the kick-off included the sassy duo, Angky & Mary Rose, and the sophisticated/sentimental sounds of Gabrielle Gorman (a Nancy Kelly protégé)
The series is scheduled to continue every fourth Thursday thru May.

Jazz at Sitrus kicked off the 2014-15 season by hosting the first lady of CNY Jazz, Nancy Kelly. She was joined last night by retired Ithaca College educator Steve Brown on guitar, Dino Losito on keys and Rochester’s Mike Melito on drums.
This is the fourth season for the series.

Nancy Kelly & Joe Magnarelli played Mohegan Manor Sunday afternoon.
Thanks for Larry Luttinger at CNY Jazz for the invite to the January Jazz Fest program at Mohegan Manor. Outside it was freezing, but inside the performers such as Kelly and Magnarelli kept it feeling hot, hot, hot by transforming the spacious Morris Ballroom (with its 22-foot ceilings) into a more intimate, cabaret-type atmosphere.

The CNYJAF will produce their annual January JazzFest next week. One of the highlights of the all-day fundraiser will be a melodious collaboration between trumpeter Joe Magnarelli and the first lady of CNY Jazz, Nancy Kelly.
