Near Westside
Here’s a sample from a tune played during the Jazz in the City (Westside) show on Thursday, featuring Elan Trotman and Brian Simpson. Their put together band included Rochester musicians Corey Owens (drums) and Carlton Wilcox (bass). They are featured on the clip.
Their synergy was excellent and the overflowing crowd on Park Street showed them much love.
We saw Wilcox when he played here with Frank McComb, and Owens when he played with Danielle Ponder.
Michael Taylor of the Chiefs (#2) walked in the bottom of the fourth inning of Thursday’s double-header against Lehigh Valley, then stole second. He went to third on an error and later scored a run. Infielder Jesmuel Valentin is shown here avoiding Taylor’s slide. The Chiefs still lost the game 3-2. The final game of the series will Sunday at NBT Bank Stadium.
Brian Simpson (Jazz in the City: Westside)
Brian Simpson’s smooth roots run deep. He co-wrote the 1991 pop ballad “The First Time.”
Simpson took the music to the people on Thursday evening.
Summer Cool
Elan Trotman went down on bended knee in his return to Syracuse yesterday for the Jazz in the City series. He shared the stage with keyboardist Brian Simpson, as well as Rochester musicians Corey Owes and Carlton Wilcox. The show shut down a portion of Park Avenue and overflowed the parking lot of Strada Mia 313.
WAER media personality Eric Cohen primed the crowd for the return of Elan Trotman.
Marriott Syracuse Downtown: Lobby
The palatial Warren Street landmark, formerly known as the Hotel Syracuse, will officially re-open today as The Marriott Syracuse Downtown. Some final touches were being added yesterday evening but the transformation looked wonderful, including the historic murals and coffered ceilings.
