Throwback Thursday
Thursday, July 21st, 2016What a difference three months can make. Last night Sen. Ted Cruz was booed by some of the NY Delegates to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. In April, Cruz supporters packed Driver’s Village and he was seen as a viable alternative to NY values and front runner Donald J. Trump.
Less than three weeks after the Syracuse rally, Cruz suspended his campaign for president.
Throwback Thursday
Thursday, July 21st, 2016Five Gold Gloves, Two World Series Titles, Four All-Star Appearances, and One Cy Young Award are all part of Ron Guidry’s resume. The retired Yankee (and son of Lafayette, LA like Buckwheat Zydeco) found his pro pedigree 40 years ago right here in Syracuse. For this Throwback Thursday take a listen as he talks about his time with the Chiefs.
Stopping Short
Wednesday, July 20th, 2016A few things we noticed during today’s Syracuse Chiefs matinee contest vs. The Gwinnett Braves: the crowd was great for a noon time start, Adrian Sanchez made a fashion statement with his compression undershirt, and lastly that there’s no way that the umpires should have missed the call during the six inning when they mis-ID’d Mel Rojas Jr’s foul ball as a home run (we had a vantage point near right field). Fans often give umps a hard time at NBT Bank Stadium, but this wasn’t even close. The Chiefs ended up losing the game 3-2.
Syracuse Architectural Digest: The Public Square
Wednesday, July 20th, 2016Steeped in history and prized for its versatility, Clinton Square is maybe the only place in the ‘Cuse that can hold a KlezFest, a Black Lives Matter rally, a candlelight vigil, sunrise Yoga, and a Blues performance.
Welcome to the new heart of the city.
Pro·test (part 2)
Tuesday, July 19th, 2016Yesterday’s Black Lives Matter rally/demonstration featured a multi-racial contingent that marched through Downtown Syracuse (ironically along some streets with names straight outta the pages of American history, such as Franklin, Washington and Jefferson). Numerous residents and workers viewed the march from parking lots or office buildings above the city.
Vendor-Turned-VIP
Tuesday, July 19th, 2016Membership has it’s privileges. James “Jimmy” Durkin came NBT Bank Stadium to receive his Wall of Fame plaque on Sunday and actually took the day off (well, sort of).
