George Kilpatrick and\u00a0Sherri Kilpatrick Duchenne at the Opening of “Child of the Universe” at CFAC<\/p><\/div>\n

I got a chance to check out the inaugural show for\u00a0mixed media\u00a0artist and activist,\u00a0George Kilpatrick, Sr. on Saturday. The show,held at the Community Folk Art Center\u00a0(CFAC), was attended by community members, artists,\u00a0as well as the Kilpatrick family.<\/p>\n

Media personality George Kilpatrick, Jr. opened the\u00a0show by reading a poem his dad wrote called “The Artist.”\u00a0 George’s sister Sherri Kilpatrick Duchenne also told a story about how her dad taught the family to harness the \u00a0power of the pen.<\/p>\n

George Kilpatrick, III, a student studying at Howard Unviersity, representing third generation of the family, sang a soulful rendition of “Yesterday,” which reminded me a lot of the Donny Hathaway\u00a0version.<\/p>\n
