She belted out some original songs, and even did a Billie Holiday version on one cut.<\/p>\n<p>Before the night was over people could be heard screaming from the back: \u00a0&#8220;Danielle Ponder! Danielle Ponder!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Not to be outdone, or out-shined, the band, made up of Avis Reese (keys), Timm Cash (guitar), Corey Owens (drums) and Carlton Wilcox (bass), were the perfect side order.\u00a0Their out-of-this-world solos, particularly by Wilcox and Owens, quickly drove the audience onto the dance floor.<\/p>\n<p>The event, which also featured opening band Funk Nut, was produced by<em> CuseCulture Magazine<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Just after midnight Ponder invited poet and actor Reenah Golden onto stage and she free-styled some verse for the mostly millennial audience. We last saw Golden\u00a0during\u00a0a one-woman show at Syracuse University&#8217;s Drama Department, and her stage presence remains legendary.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18836\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18836\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18836\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sif.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/tomorrowcrowd1.jpg\" alt=\"Funk n' Waffles\" width=\"530\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sif.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/tomorrowcrowd1.jpg 530w, https:\/\/www.sif.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/tomorrowcrowd1-300x145.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18836\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Funk n&#8217; Waffles<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Last night&#8217;s two-hour show is further evidence that Funk n&#8217; Waffles is becoming the go-to spot for a generous whiff of the Downtown Funk Scene.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing goes better with good, foot-stomping music than the aromatic bliss of waffles and maple syrup.\u00a0We eagerly await this group&#8217;s return to the &#8216;Cuse.
