The Syracuse Shock Football Club, last year’s NAFL’s Eastern champs, began their season on Saturday by bullying the Elmira Evolution 76-19 at Henninger Field.  This year the Shock joined the Empire Football League, which has teams in Albany, Watertown, Plattsburgh, Glens Falls, Vermont, and  Montreal.

Despite an ankle injury, former Syracuse star Donovan McNabb expects to start for Sunday for the Washington Redskins. McNabb previously spent 11 years as a Philadelphia Eagle.

About 100 high school seniors participated in the Inaugural New York State High School Football Classic on Sunday. Despite a distinct home field advantage in the Syracuse University Carrier Dome, the Upstate Team couldn’t overcome the athletic ability and strong play of the Downstate team. The final score was 36-7.
