Sept 23--Outside looking In: Syracuse University held a day-long colloquium featuring US and Canadian-based scholars to discuss the literature of Haiti. Participants included (pictured from left to right) Silvio Torres-Saillant, Rachelle Charlier Doucet, Maximilien Laroche, Dany Laferrière and Myriam Chancy. Laferrière and Chancy read from their works, which led to a spirited discussion about authenticity as it relates to exiles writing about Haiti, and the subject of sex as a symbol for liberation.
