(Feb 16)--Maleness to Manhood--Hip Hop writer and historian Kevin Powell delivered the Syracuse University Black History Month Commemorative Lecture last night. His subject was redefining masculinity and he detailed his own transformation and acceptance of a broader view of what it means to be a black man in America. We can redefine masculinity by being honest and by getting help if we (as men) need it, he said. Powell He told the sparse crowd, who came out despite the in climate weather that he was accepted to Syracuse University (but he chose Rutgers) and was a high school classmate of Orangeman Raf Addison. Powell is author of seven books and became know as a writer for Vibe Magazine and as an actor on the first season of MTV's The Real World.
